Police searching for White Dodge Caravan.
State and local police are hunting for a driver who allegedly sped off after hitting an elderly bicyclist and dragging him more than 100 feet along Boston's Jamaicaway.
The victim, a 65-year-old man, was struck by a van near 434 Jamaicaway around 1:08 p.m, according to Massachusetts State Police. The van reportedly left the scene immediately after the crash and the man was taken to Beth Israel Hospital with serious injuries.
Dispatchers were originally told the victim was hit by a White Dodge Caravan and dragged more than 100 feet, according to police scanner chatter. The accident occurred in front of the Rogerson House, an assisted-living facility, but an employee said the victim was not a resident there.
The Jamaicaway runs along Olmsted Park and Jamaica Pond, parallel to the Brookline border. Brookline, Boston and Massachusetts State police responded to the scene earlier this afternoon.
UPDATE: State Police ask anyone who saw the incident to call their barracks at 617-727-6780. According to an updated "Be On the Lookout" broadcast by the Brookline Police, the white van hit the bicyclist, backed up and hit him again before driving away.
